What year did you begin and graduate Navigator College?
I began in 2011 and graduated 2022.
What have you been up to since leaving Navigator College?
Since leaving I have taken a gap year where I saved up and had a 6 week Europe trip, and later Christmas in Spain. This year I have moved up to Brisbane and I’m in my first year of my Bachelor of Advanced Science (basically just a fancy way of saying honours degree) at the University of Queensland, majoring in Biochemistry and Marine Biology. I’ve been lucky enough to go on a few field trips to National parks and Moreton Bay Research Station and have seen some amazing wildlife and ecosystems. When I’m procrastinating study I find myself down in Gold Coast with friends, exploring or at dance.
What is your favourite memory at Navigator College?
There’s so many great memories it’s hard to choose. I think some of my favourites are from year 12, like playing lawn bowls in our dress ups for our last day to getting kfc for our after school chemistry study session with Mrs Kenney. I know our grade was trouble for teachers, but it always made everything so much fun.
What is your biggest achievement so far?
I think there’s not a big one that stands out but a collection of smaller achievements throughout my life. One would be completely planning and paying for my 6 week Europe trip and travelling essentially by myself for the first time (without parents and parts solo). I also think my art is a bit achievement and such a big part of my life, with my plastic installation being displayed during SALT festival and performing at Odette’s School of Dance. And just surviving my first year of uni, being halfway across the country knowing no one. It’s been a struggle.
What advice would you give to current students at Navigator College?
Work hard and enjoy every moment at school. Even if schools not your thing or you just don’t like it, hold onto it whilst you can because outside your life will completely change and no matter what, you will miss it. It’s a great part of your life full of so much growth and love and try not to take that community and environment for granted. Nothing is guaranteed in life.
