STUDENT ABSENTEE PROCEDURE

Dear Navigator College Families,

If you have a child that will be absent from school, we ask that you please follow the procedure as listed below, to ensure we do not miss any absentee related correspondence from you.

  1. Please advise any known absences (holidays, appointments etc) in advance via the SMS number or College Website or the College App ONLY. Whilst a notice in the student dairy is very appreciated by teachers, this information is sometimes not relayed to Student Services due to the busyness of morning home class.
  2. If your child is sick, please advise Student Services via the SMS number or the College Website or the College App ONLY. Furthermore, please advise on the morning of each day they are absent, as we will not assume because your child was ill yesterday that they are also ill the following day.
  3. If you wish to collect your child early, can we also suggest you come to the Student Services Desk 5 to 10 minutes before you require them.  Student Services can then ring through to the student’s classroom and ask them to come to the Student Services with their school bag etc and sign out.

We do hope that by following to above practice it will eliminate parents/caregivers receiving SMS messages to say their child is an ‘unexplained’ absent when in fact they have previously advised the home class teacher.

This SMS automated system, that advises parents/caregivers their child is absent, is an essential component in our duty of care. It ensures parents/caregivers are ‘aware’ of their child’s absence, should it be unexplained.
