POPPIES FOR REMEMBRANCE DAY 2018

The 5000 Poppies group are creating a spectacular installation of approximately 62,000 knitted and crocheted poppies on stems for Remembrance Day 2018 installation at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. The aim is to mark the Centenary of the end of WWI and the number approximately represents the loss of Australian lives in that war.

The stems will be prepared in Melbourne and assembled in various places closer to the installation date. We currently have around 18,000 to 20,000 completed stems … to be confirmed. So still around 40,000 plus poppies and stems to make.

Mrs Hickey would love some volunteers to help make these amazing poppies. This is the link to the blog page, which also has a range of patterns. https://5000poppies.wordpress.com

We will have a box here at school for all donations.

The humble start I have made. All contributions are most welcome.
Thank you, Judy Hickey
